It is finally time for another project challenge! I love these challenges and they really make me think outside of the box which is always fun π
Did you see the two others I did previously… doors and pallet wood?
This month our challenge was to use old frames in a different way.
I started the challenge with this beautiful frame I found at the dump and these two wrought iron handles I have had hanging around for a few years.
The frame was the perfect size to make a tray. It had its glass intact and nice layers around it which would be perfect to keep treats from slipping off.
With Halloween not too far off I thought it would be just right for holding treats.
I made the holes for the handles before tackling anything else.
When you have something that is uneven or hard to measure, mark where you need to drill holes by dabbing a little paint over the hole and then use it to mark the spots.
The tray got a coat of Country Chic Paint in Fresh Mustard to start. It is such a gorgeous Fallish yellow!
Since I wanted a crackle effect on the tray, I added a layer of glue over the dry Fresh Mustard.
Once the glue started to dry, just a little bit, I added a layer of Country Chic Paint in Liquorice. As the glue dries, it will pull the black paint apart and create a crackle that will allow the yellow to show through.
Isn’t the yellow so pretty showing through the black. That is where the glue dried and pulled the black paint apart with it.
To finish the tray, I used vintage Halloween photos and decoupaged them onto the glass.
Now I just have to wait for those little trick-or-treaters to pop by soon.
Let’s breathe new life into old things together!

Too nice for the trick or treaters but perfect for a party in your home, or just to have for decor in the house for October! Love it.
Haha yes, I guess it depends on how many trick or treaters you get π It would be perfect for a party though or to serve cupcakes to your kids. So many fun uses.
So great! I love how your tray came out. I loved the handles and the perfect colors…so great!
Thanks so much Michele!

What a fun idea, Lisa! That yellow color is beautiful and I love it peaking through the glass and on those beautiful handles. I love how #ProjectChallenge makes us think outside the box
