Turn Air-Dry Clay Into Super Cute Flower Pot Sticks for Summer

Welcome to June and the unofficial start of summer! June has to be one of my favourite months of the year. The long days, beautiful weather, spring flowers, and trees that are full of leaves all make me so happy. What more could you want?

To celebrate June, I made these super cute little flower pot sticks this week. They are fun to make and there are so many ways to use them that you can’t go wrong whipping some up. I have to send out a huge thank you to my friend Louise for inspiring this project! She made something similar and they were so sweet I had to try it myself.

IOD MOULDS

For my pot sticks, I decided to make little bees and daisies but you could make butterflies, birds, or really anything that would look fun peeking out of a flower pot.

To prep the moulds for the clay, always make sure to dust them with cornstarch. This will allow the clay to easily be released and keep all of the details intact.

Once the mould is dusted, break off pieces of the air-dry clay and push them into all of the nooks and crannies until it is filled.

Be sure to release the clay while it is still wet; do not let the clay dry in the mould.

Making the Flower Pot Sticks

Once your designs are moulded and released, it’s time to add the sticks. I used small wooden skewers.

To add the sticks, I gently held the flowers and bees and pushed the pointed end of the skewer up into the clay. The pointed end pushed nicely in without damaging anything.

Once the skewers are inserted, leave the air-dry clay overnight to harden.

Painting the Flowers and Bees

Using Milk Paint by Fusion, I painted all of my little flowers and bees. I used Palm Spring Pink, Casa Rosa, Sangria, Little Black Dress, and Mod Mustard.

Little artists brushes were the perfect size to get into all of the details.

These little flower sticks were so fun to make and they look so cute popped in a flower pot for summer.
