Solid Wood Tables

I just finished these custom tables for a client this week and thought I would share them with you.  While I was working on them I was struck by their quality.  They are solid wood and saying they are built to last is a bit of an understatement.  I see vintage tables like these all of the time.   Most were made between the 1940s and the 1970s.  They are sturdy, solid and even when they are massed produced, were far superior than most of the furniture produced today.  How many of us, who have bought new furniture in the past 20 years still have it?  And it has held up well?  Probably not many.  I know I haven’t.  But yet the pieces that you see kicking around thrift stores and garage sales barely look like they have been used.  Seeing tables like these, and their incredible quality, is just another reminder of why I love what I do.

I would hate to see these unique pieces end up in a landfill.  Preserving their beauty and quality is a job I will take any day.  The next time you are thinking of adding new furniture to your home, I would encourage you to check your local charity store or online buy/sell sites.  These older pieces may need a little TLC (aka paint) but their quality is well worth the effort.To get specific directions on how to refinish tables like these, check out a previous post about a similar, Federal style table.

The tops of the tables above were refinished using General Finishes wood stain in Black.  The bottoms with Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.
