Vintage Spindle Christmas Tree

A few weeks ago I shared with you some cute little snowmen I made out of my hoard of spindles. Today I want to show you a lovely, rustic Christmas tree that is just the right size for a small space. For the spindle tree you will need 6 to 10 spindles. Each one needs to be cut a little shorter than the one before. Once your spindles are cut, you will need to drill a hole in the middle of each one. For my tree, I used all different shaped spindles to give it some variety and texture. It would be just as beautiful though with all of the same type of spindles.

Paint your spindles in different shades of green and white. I used Country Chic Paint in Hollow Hill and Lazy Linen. Paint two of the spindles with the colours as they are. The others can be painted with different mixed of the two colours.

I gave the spindles a good sanding once they were painted to bring out all of the beautiful details and to make them look worn and used.You will need a thick wood slice for your base and a dowel to hold your tree together. Cut the dowel long enough to go through all of the spindles and a few extra inches for the trunk.

Drill a hold into the middle of the wood slice and then glue the dowel into the hole. Once you have the base and “trunk”, drop your spindles on largest to smallest. To keep the spindles from dropping down to the wood slice, I wrapped and glued some hemp twine around the bottom 2 inches of the dowel. For my tree, I also added some little wood rings to separate the spindles. You could easily stack them one on top of the other though and they would look just as pretty. Finish your tree off with a bow or star and you have the perfect little tree. Be sure to drop back by on Thursday to take a peak inside of my home decorated for the Holidays.
