This summer has already been filled with some incredible dump store finds and last week was no different!
On my last trip to the dump store I found this incredibly beautiful bread bowl sitting under a pile of dusty treasures. It is hand-made and you can tell that someone really took their time to craft it. It is so simple and perfect. A true farmhouse piece.
The only issue I had with my new bowl, if you can even call it an issue, was that it had a bit of an orange tinge. I am not sure what kind of wood it is made out of, but it definitely looked orange. It was so lovely though I really didn’t want to do anything to it that would take away from its beauty in any way.
I decided I would just rub the teeny, tiniest amount of General Finishes Nutmeg Gel Stain onto it to darken it up.
It was perfect. It darkened it up just enough to take away the orange and highlight the gorgeous wood grain and imperfections.
I rubbed it down with a coat of Tung oil to finishes it off and that was it. Sometimes, a little stain really is all you need!
I also found this gorgeous, vintage paint-by-numbers recently too.
I am completely smitten by it!
Not only is the fall scene gorgeous but something about it just screams nostalgia to me. Maybe because way back in the depths of my memory, I remember a few similar paintings hanging in our cottage when I was a kid. Or, maybe, it just instantly pulls me back to a simpler time. Either way, I was instantly drawn to it and still can’t believe that I found it at the dump 😉
