Turn Cherished Vintage Teacups Into Sweet and Charming Holiday Decor

The holidays are almost here but before they arrive, I wanted to share one last quick vintage-inspired thDIY. These charming little scenes are perfect for a mantel, as a table centrepiece, or anywhere you want to pop a sweet little vintage touch.

This project is quick and easy and can be made from items you may already have around the house.

Prepping the Teacups

To start this DIY, I grabbed a couple of my favourite teacups. You can use special ones with personal meaning or your favourite thrited finds. You won’t be doing anything in this project to ruin the cups so they can be used again after the holiday season.

I also needed some floral foam and a serrated knife.

The floral foam needs to fit into the teacup and be quite snug. I used the knife to trim it down until it fit into the teacup without being higher than the rim.

Trimming the floral foam in small amounts at a time is essential so that you don’t take off too much. If the foam is snug, you won’t need anything else to hold it in place.

Creating the Snow

To create the snowy scene, I used some cotton makeup rounds. When pulled apart, they were fluffy and perfect for creating faux snow.

The more I pulled at them, the more they looked like softly fallen snow.

After pulling a few apart it was time to start tucking them into the teacup overtop of the floral foam.

Bringing to Life the Wintery Scene

To bring the charming little winter scene to life, I started with a creamy-coloured bottlebrush tree. I tucked some of the cotton snow around the base so it wouldn’t show. I did this again when I added the smaller green bottlebrush trees.

The cotton rounds held the trees in place without using any glue.

Once the trees were in place, using a knife helped to tuck in all of the loose edges of the cotton rounds.

The Final Pieces

The final touch was to add some miniature deer to complete the whimsical scene.

I love how sweet these miniature deer are. There are so many things you could add to finish off the scene but these little guys were perfect for me and kept with the vintage vibe.

These are just the sweetest winter scenes that can be left up long after the holidays are over and they were so easy to create. I love that nothing was glued so everything can be reused when winter is over.

I hope you find some time this holiday season to do something you love and let your creativity flow.
