Do you remember this vintage bookcase from way back here that I picked up on one of my drives around the Ottawa valley? When I saw the bookcase I instantly fell in love with its size, lines and functionality so grabbed it as quickly as I could.
It patiently sat around for most of the Spring and Summer until finally getting it’s day in the sun this Fall.I wanted to do something completely unique with this piece and the word bespoke kept coming to mind. Even though the word itself isn’t new, it has seen a resurgence in the past couple of years.
Bespoke means to custom make something exactly to a personal preference with absolutely no level of detail or expense spared. For me, bespoke goes even a step further to mean something personally gorgeous (custom) that speaks to your heart.
The vintage bookcase itself isn’t bespoke but the paint colour is. I am not usually one to go crazy blending paints but this piece was yearning for it.To create a layered, bespoke colour, it took several shades of paint. The bookcase started with a coat of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Lucketts Green. It is that beautiful Spring green peeking through. Between the layers of Lucketts Green and the stunning teal, Hemp Oil was added in little dabs here and there to help resist the top layer.
I have to admit that I am not a huge teal lover but this colour just makes me swoon. So deep and so rich. It seems to change in every light ♥♥
The icing on the cupcake so to speak was the stunning brass hardware. I didn’t do a thing to it since it matched perfectly and was striking against the greens and blues! So what do you think? Would you call this a bespoke piece? A custom piece (and colour) that speaks to the heart and spares no detail or “expense” (mixing, time, layering)? If you have created any bespoke pieces I would loove to see them! Add a picture to the comments below or to the Recreated Designs Facebook page. I love seeing your creations!
