Wood Canisters Turned Jack-O-Lanterns

You just never know what you are going to find at the thrift store do you?!

Last year I found two of these wooden canisters and, as with most things I scoop up, I didn’t know exactly what I would do with them.  Wood canister found at a thrift shopThen, along comes Fall and I thought they’d make the cutest Jack-O-Lanterns.

This is really one of those projects that is so quick and easy.  It took about 30 minutes and all I needed was a little orange, black and brown paint and some raffia.  Annie Sloan Barcelona Orange Chalk Paint used to turn wood canisters into Jack-O-Lanterns

Here are the steps that turned a couple of outdated canisters into the perfect Halloween treat holders;

  1. Paint the canisters or containers orange.
  2. Paint on the face of your choice using black paint.  If you are more comfortable, draw on the face with pencil first and then fill it in with paint.
  3. Paint the handle brown to look like the stem of the pumpkin.
  4. Tie on some raffia for the vines.

Take a look at the thrift store next time you are there and see if you can find something that you can turn into a Jack-o-Lantern.  It is a great way to add a little Halloween fun to your home for next to nothing.

 The added bonus with these?  Not only are they fun and whimsical but they are perfect to set by the door to hold your treats.  pumpkin canisters to hold treats and candy
