Even though like I said in my last post, I am not ready for summer to end, I have had fun getting some Fall projects ready to go for Autumn.
Back in the early summer, some friends salvaged some of these beautiful vintage picking baskets for me and I have been just itching to use them. There were several sizes but I was particularly drawn to this shallow shape. I can just imagine all of the yummy and colourful apples it probably held at one time.
Since I loved the vintage feel of the baskets, I wanted to preserve that feel in my plans to paint it.

Once the middle was painted, I used the same Fort York Red to paint the vintage-inspired border around both edges of the basket.
With the doily being plastic, it held up incredibly well with the paint. Paper doilies could also be used, but you may need a few in case they break down from the wet paint.
The script was added using the graphite paper method to outline the words. You can see how to do this here… They were then painted in the same Inglenook colour as the inside.

I love that even though the basket was given a makeover, it still has a beautiful vintage feel. The doily was a perfect choice for the border and was so easy to use. I am so glad I grabbed it when I saw it!
Pin for later…
