I picked up this vintage dresser in January and thought it was a perfect candidate to try some IOD decor stamps I received on. The stamps I received were of grain sack stripes and when I saw this dresser thought it had the perfect lines to complement the stripes.
I loove grain sack stripes. There is something so simple and pretty about them. They always seem so cheery and just make me smile. I even painted them on this chair…The dresser was in good working condition but had quite a few nicks and chips.
To freshen it up, it got several coats of Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Mora; inside and out.
When the dresser was finished getting it’s gorgeous new pale grey coat, it was time for the IOD stamps. The one I used for this project was from the Grainery Grain Sack Stripes set.
I have tried IOD decor transfers before (see one project here) and really loved how they turned out but had not had a chance to try the stamps until this project. To use the stamp, I stuck it to the large stamping block,
and inked it up with some of the white decor ink.
To actually use the stamp it look a bit of a learning curve. Once I figured out the best way to use it though, I loved it.
I found that the ink was quite slippy so the stamp worked better when I laid the dresser on it’s back. I would also highly recommend trying the stamp before inking it…. just to make sure you will be able to press it firmly and nothing impedes it.After I worked out these few little quirks, I loved the look I got. I tried the stamps with both the ink and some white paint and really liked how both looked.
I was so pleased with how the lines of the dresser played off of the lines of the stamp. It was like they were made for each other 😉
I also have this set of stamps and can’t wait to try them out. Now I just have to decide what to use them on…
A huge thanks to IOD Iron Orchid Designs for providing the supplies for this project. Even though the stamps were given, all opinions are very much my own.
