Are you ready for Christmas yet? I hate to say it, but I am soooo not!! UGH. I don’t know how it snuck up so quickly! I do have most of my holiday decor up but that’s about it LOL.
I was going to share this little upcycle with you last week but my website was having a technical glitch. Even though it is a little late, I hope it gives you a little inspiration this Holiday season.
Each year I try to come up with a new tree to add to my decor (see a couple of them here and here…) and this year I was a bit stumped at first. Then it hit me… the cupcake holder I found at the Dump Reuse centre this summer!
The Tree
When I took this cupcake holder from the reuse centre I wasn’t sure what I would do with it. I thought I might end up giving it to my sister to use it as it was intended, a cupcake holder, and it even almost went back to the dump several times. I ended up keeping it though and I am so glad I did!
The thing I did to the cupcake holder was to give it two coats of green paint. I used Bayberry (Fusion Mineral Paint) and dabbed it on thick to add some texture when it dried.
Decorating the Tree
These old blue Christmas balls that my sister had given me were the perfect size to decorate the tree.
Each ornament was painted with two coats in Old Ochre (Annie Sloan Chalk Paint).
While the second coat of paint was wet, each one was sprinkled with antique gold coloured sparkle.
Each little ornament got a loop of natural paper twine and then was hung on the swirls of the tree.
It always amazes me what a little paint can do, but these little ornaments don’t even look the same! Reusing ones that I had not only saved me money but also kept these old ones from ending up in the trash.
The Topper
To finish my new tree, I added a little vintage angel to the top. Isn’t she so pretty? (I found two of these little angels at the same estate sale where I found the baskets for my Fall wreath and they cost less than a dollar for both!) I just love her vintage vibe and pretty pink dress.

Very cute! I think I might try putting glass bulbs upside down in each holder to see what that would look like. The little angel is the perfect topper. Your angel looks like a birth stone figurine I received back in the 50’s (Josef). You just may have a collectible from the estate sale.
Thanks so much! I love the idea of the glass bulbs. That would be very cute! I found two of those little angels and I just love them. They are plastic though so I think nothing collectible but I love their look none the less. They remind me of something my grandparents would have had on their tree or in their home 70 years ago <3
